Stranger

I see you
I watch you
inside that crowded
filthy place.

Through the small
hole
you hold out your
hand
trembling, I reach
for it
the soft hand
I used to touch
is already gone
shocked, I look
up to your face
the bright
wide smile
is no longer there
scared, confused
I run
run as fast as
I can
I can still see
your face
I try to read
your mind
but I can’t

I run faster
as I figure
out
that crowded
filthy place
turned you
into a stranger.
